SMA Magnetics Sp. z o.o., the Polish subsidiary of the Hessian inverter manufacturer SMA Solar Technology AG, is building a new production facility in Krakow. This is the second plant that SMA has built in Poland in just four years. The new SMA Magnetics production building on the site of the GLP Kraków Airport Logistics Centre will have an area of around 10,000 square metres. Here, SMA will manufacture electromagnetic components such as chokes and transformers, which are needed for SMA’s inverter production.
Once the new production facility has been completed, SMA Magnetics will have a total area of more than 25,000 square metres. By expanding the production of inductors, SMA is responding to the increasing demand and, above all, to the growing inverter production in Hesse. “SMA is currently in a growth phase to which the new SMA Magnetics production facility will make a decisive contribution in the future,” emphasises Barbara Gregor, CFO of SMA.
The new factory is due to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024 and production is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2025. Around 300 employees will then work in the new halls. The workforce will then increase to 1,100 employees. The location at the Airport Logitic Centre in Krakow, which GLP operates, was chosen deliberately.
