In a game-changing move for India’s renewable energy landscape, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has wrapped up its auction for a 400 MW supply of DCR solar PV modules, signaling a robust push towards bolstering local manufacturing and reducing dependency on imports of solar modules.
The auction spotlighted three standout winners: Swelect Energy Systems, Grew Energy, and ReNew Photovoltaics. Swelect got a 100 MW contract, Grew Energy got the largest allotment of a 200 MW contract, while ReNew Photovoltaics got a 100 MW contract.
The bid was evaluated at INR 22.66 per Watt peak (Wp).
Launched by SECI in December 2023, the tender mandated that awarded manufacturers employ domestically manufactured solar cells and Solar Modules adhering strictly to the specifications outlined by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and sourced from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).
SECI’s auction, with Swelect, Grew, and ReNew at the forefront, signifies a monumental leap forward in catalyzing indigenous solar power and advancing India’s renewable energy aspirations. This landmark event not only highlights the country’s commitment to clean energy but also exemplifies the principles of the Make in India initiative.
By prioritizing domestic players like Swelect, Grew, and ReNew, SECI’s auction embodies the spirit of self-reliance and local manufacturing. These companies exemplify India’s growing prowess in renewable energy technology and highlight the potential of homegrown solutions to address the nation’s energy needs.
